If you’re a keen designer, making clothes for yourself is a good way to practise your art whilst also creating some highly individual looks for yourself on a budget. There’s a certain sense of satisfaction which comes with being your own fashion stylist, and being able to construct your desired looks completely from scratch is an extra string to your bow.
If you’ve never made your own clothes before, give it a go. You don’t necessarily have to make them from scratch at first – perhaps try customising a few outfits with fabric paints and stitching. Once you’ve gained confidence, look up some patterns for making your own outfits and begin having a go.
Of course, you don’t have to make a complete outfit either. Making your own accessories can also be an individual way to dress up an outfit and it will give your look a completely unique edge. Jewellery such as necklace and earrings are quite easy to make using sets, and if want to learn to knit or crochet, you’ll be able to make accessories like scarves and hats for yourself or as gifts.
